Fats and carbohydrates have certain nutrients in them that your body also needs and the body can be damaged by too much protein. The liver and kidney are the most common organs damaged by long term high protein diets that don't leave enough room in the diet for a reasonable amount of fats and carbs.

    Many athletes use a whey based protein powder as a supplement. It would be better in most cases for them to use a soy based protein powder so they could get the benefit of the high protein without as much risk to the organs.
